OpenCM 9.04C does not connect to RoboPlus Manager (or Motion or Task)
Writer : jwatte DATE : May 3, 2015 | Hit : 3,379
I recently bought and assembled a Darwin Mini robot. I can connect to the board over BlueTooth from my Android phone, and the default motions work fine.

I am trying to connect to my OpenCM 9.04C from the PC to upgrade motions with RoboPlus Motion. However, even though I can pair the BlueTooth dongle to my PC, RoboPlus Motion doesn't see the board. It also doesn't see the board through the USB port.

Thus, I now want to attempt to upgrade the firmware in the board, to see if that is the problem.
I follow the instructions in RoboPlus Manager, but it still doesn't see the board:

1) Hold user button
2) Turn on power
3) Release user button when green LED is lit
4) Connect to USB to PC
5) Press "next>" in RoboPlus Manager
6) No board is detected.
7) Pressing "Find" button just disables the buttons forever, not finding the device

What is wrong and how do I fix it?

Hello there,

When I updated the firmware on anOpenCM-904-C using the USB port, and when I reached your Step 6, sometimes I had the same problem as you had and you may have noticed that the computer says that you may have to turn the 904C off and on again (while holding down the user button).  That last step does the trick for me most of the times.  Sometimes I had to repeat this procedure several times to get the proper connection.

Do you have an LN-101? you can try to update the firmware via Dynamixel Wizard also, see this YouTube video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHFbV2efG0U.  In general, for the OpenCM-904-C the Dynamixel Wizard is a lots more useful than the Manager tool.

Regarding not being able to download Motion files, I am assuming that you used R+Motion V.2? regarding BT connections, you got to make sure to use the OUTGOING BT COM port on the R+Motion V.2 side.  If you already did, you got me stomped then.

Hopefully all this helps.

No, I was not using RoboPlus Motion 2, because I hadn't found any information that that was available or needed.
For others with the same problem, here is the link:
